Transition

Our church is in a season of transition. Firstly, we are in between installed pastors. After leading us for eleven years, Rev.  Dr. Clay Thomas stepped down and now we are searching for our next head of staff pastor. In May of 2026, Rev. Dr. Marvin Morgan (Pastor Morgan) was called to join our staff as the Stated Transition Pastor and will guide us through this next season of the life of our congregation.

We are intentionally using this time of transition to name the other ways that our church has shifted.  In telling our story, we can’t ignore the ways Covid greatly impacted our community (as it did most Protestant churches), and we are looking at who we are now and who we want to be in our next chapter. It's an exciting time to be part of Rivermont.

Our Board of Elders, the Session, communicates with letters and congregational meetings as openly and frequently as is helpful. We're going to need everyone's input, big-idea dreams, volunteer hands, and prayers as we write the next chapter of our story together.

 

OPEN FORUM #1 on THE TRANSITION PROCESS

August 30, 2026 – During Worship

Rivermont participants, on behalf of the Worship and The Arts Committee, thank you for your cooperation and support of our decision to devote the sermon time, during worship each 5th Sunday, to updates (in various formats) regarding our ongoing Transition Process. These regular updates will be key opportunities for the Transition Team, the Session, and/or the Transition Stated Pastor to interact directly with the congregation in ways that we pray will enable all church participants to remain fully aware of the progress we are making along our transition/wilderness journey.

During our initial update, on the 5th Sunday of August, equipment limitations prevented Pastor Morgan’s PowerPoint videos from playing clearly and loudly enough to be heard by all who were present. Thanks to our Church Office Administrator, Jay Banasiak, the videos
